Key features SyMRI Brain Studio: - Includes all features of Contrast Studio.
- Automatic segmentation of pre-defined tissue types:
Supports typical investigations for:
Intracranial and brain volume follow-up
The intracranial volume is automatically calculated by SyMRI Brain Studio and displayed as a red line in the Segmentation Layout. The brain is further partitioned into white matter, grey matter and deviating tissue as partial volume fractions.
The radiologist can easily adjust the intracranial mask when desired. The total volume of cranium and brain is specified in the segmentation table.
Total volume of the brain is shown in the segmentation table together with the intracranial volume and the ratio between the two of them (Brain Parenchymal Fraction).

Identification of tumor Some tumors appear in the segmentation view, as deviating tissue not identified as white tissue, gray tissue or CSF.
Characteristics of a tumor By placing a ROI over a tumor, T1, T2 and PD values are shown. In this way, the characteristics and boundary of the tumor can be identified.
Volume of tumor Volume determination of a tumor can be done by marking it in the slices it occurs with a ROI, The volume of the tumor tissue is calculated and shown in the result table to the right.

Volume fraction of CSF
SyMRI Brain Studio automatically partitions the intracranial volume into brain parenchyma and CSF to determine the Brain Parenchymal fraction.
Volume of the ventricular system
Volume determination of the ventricles can easily be done by roughly outlining an area using a ROI.
All CSF enclosed by the ROI is copied to a user-defined mask.
To the right the segmentation table shows the user-defined volume per slice and the total.
The calculation is done using partial volume.

Characteristic of MS lesions An MS lesion is marked in a slice with a ROI. In the upper right corner of the image the mean T1, T2 and PD is shown as well as a plot of R1 (1/T1) versus R2 (1/T2).
Lesion characteristics determine the geometrical position in the plot.'
Preliminary research results indicate three distinguishable types of MS lesions: 1. Inflammation without myelin damage, positioned at healthy white matter but with reduced R2. 2. Active lesions (with myelin damage), positioned at healthy grey matter but with reduced R2. These lesions may enhance after Gd contrast resulting in a higher R1. 3. Burned out lesions (scars), positioned close to CSF.
Lesions volume and lesion load Lesions automatically light up as yellow. Volume determination can be done per lesion or for the total lesion load.
